Review summary of A Field of Virgins

"I suppose I’ve always been vaguely aware of this seedy side going on behind the scenes, but Ian Devey’s novel lays it all bare and slaps you in the face with it.

"The first few chapters had me ranting and raving about gratuitous sex and violence. However, I was missing the point. In fact the gratuitous sex and violence was the point. And more importantly, was the exposure of the hidden costs involved of foreign tourists partaking in these hedonistic holidays of sex and drugs without a thought of the consequences."

"This is a big brave eye-opener of a book that quickly drew me in and kept me turning the pages. Three days through a book is fast for me.

"The novel has got me thinking on the sex market, human trafficking, drugs, tourists, scams, HIV, condoms, mosquitoes, noodles, prisons, journalists and what Ian Devey’s next book is going to be. Thanks to Ian for getting me thinking. It’s been a pleasure to read and review such a whopper of a powerful book."

"A Field of Virgins is written with an uncanny beauty despite the context. Through its wholesome descriptiveness, it gives you a chance to immerse yourself in the beauty of Thailand and what you might or might not expect to encounter while travelling the country, whilst keeping you abreast of the chain of events lived by all involved.

"This read will not leave you bored. Not your typical one person narrative, it's written primarily through the eyes of the quite sympathetic Herby and his carefree pal, Gus, both penniless. Devey also lets us delve into the personas of the other characters spoiling us with even more dimension, giving this gem a powerful and unparalleled dynamic."

"Read this book!"
